Design
The JBL speaker has a durable build covered by rugged rubber on both ends mainly to protect the bass radiator.
They are IPX7 waterproof, meaning that you can submerge them in three feet of water for 30 mins max.
On the back of the speaker, you will find the USB-C input along with Bluetooth and a power button.
If the speaker is on and connected to any audio device, the buttons light up.
Even though the lights are good, it would be better if the lighting were low. it would also be better if the buttons had some contrasting colors to help with visibility.
It is one of the best speakers to be found at the price stated. it also comes with a small cord designed in the shape of a loop, so that you could hang it from things.
The design is nothing different from JBL Flip 4. It has a cylindrical shape weighing around 540 gm. It fits perfectly in the water bottle pocket of any backpack.
The JBL comes in all colors pink, teal, black whatever you want.
Connectivity
The connectivity of this speaker is just like any other previous Flip series seamless.
to pair follow these steps:
- Look for the button next to the power button and push it
- Wait till it’s blinking, the beeping sound means that the device is ready to pair.
- Click on the Bluetooth icon in the setting of your device. you will see “JBL 5”
- Tap it to pair.
Even though the connection is pretty strong with a wide range. but sometimes you may find a skipping issue, but it is said to be a temporary problem that can be fixed by turning the speaker on and off.
Flip 5 Codec Support
Battery life
Even though JBL claims that the speaker can provide 12 hours of playback, however, users claim that it does not provide a playback time of more than 9 hours. It is pretty okay and has enough playback time for a good day hike. but if you want a speaker with a longer playback time, go for the Bose speaker, it provides 6-12 hours of constant playback.
Sound quality
You should not expect too much from its speaker as it is a budget speaker. Therefore, you will not be able to ignore the roll-off at 60Hz which is common for any speaker under a few hundred dollars.
The driver inside the speaker has been upgraded into a slightly detectable deeper low end.
Highs, Mids. and lows
The bass certainly is better than Flip 4, however, it is not the most orgasmic sound you will ever hear. there is a slight difference however you will not notice it until you hear it carefully.
The bass did not get super low like that of a subwoofer with a sharp drop-off at around under 100Hz
The microphone of JBL Flip 5
JBL Flip 5 does not have a microphone, you will need to look elsewhere if you want a speaker to answer your phone call.
