Why Are My AirPods Not Connecting?

Airpods from Apple are a quite simple yet amazing accessory that pairs easily with your Apple devices and connects automatically whenever in use. But there are certain times when these devices don’t connect and there are several reasons for the same that will be told in this article.

Amongst many reasons, it could be that your Airpods are out of range, out of battery, your system is not updated or it might just be because they are damaged.

All these things can be fixed if we follow the right steps.

1. Update your AirPods to the latest firmware version

If this is the first time, you’re using Airpods on your preferred device, make sure that you have the correct version of firmware installed on the AirPods. Updating your Airpods will make sure that they run on the same software system as your device, optimizing their performance.

To check whether your AirPods are updated or not with the latest firmware version, you may follow the following steps –

Update your Airpods to the latest firmware

Open the Settings section and go to the General option and then the About option.

Now, pick your AirPods and check what version of firmware they’re using on the AirPods.

Check the latest version of the firmware on the official website of Apple if your AirPods firmware doesn’t match with the device software.

Presently, there is no way to update the firmware of your AirPods manually or without an iPhone device as they automatically get updated when you’re updating your system software while connecting the AirPods on the preferred device.

2. Restart your Device

If you’ve already reset your AirPods but the problem sticks around on the AirPods then there is a possibility that the audio source or device can be a cause of the problem. In that case, an instant Restart of your iOS Device is advisable to give a fresh reboot to the device and the AirPods without any errors or performance issues.

To restart your iPhone device, you should follow these steps –

Press and hold either the volume or the side button on your device until the Power-off slider appears on the screen.

Restart your Apple device

Drag the slider and wait for 30 seconds so that your device can be shut down.

Now, again press and hold the Power button (the right-side button) to restart your device. Press the button until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

3. Try resetting your Airpods

Resetting your AirPods is one of the most simple yet most efficient solutions which you can try. If you restart your AirPods, it will resolve all the software or firmware-related issues on the AirPods. The resetting feature clears all the data on AirPods where these problems may occur and removes all your previously paired devices on the AirPods.

Follow these steps to reset your AirPods –

Resetting Your Airpods

Put your AirPods in their case and close the lid and just wait for nearly 30 seconds.

On your iPhone device, Go to settings and tap on the “Bluetooth” option. Then tap the More Info button and then click on the “forget this device” option and confirm it.

Open the AirPods case and Press and hold the setup button on the backside of the Airpods until the light flashes amber and then white color.

Are the Airpods are connected or not

Now, again place your AirPods nearby your iPhone device and follow the instructions to reconnect them on your iPhone.

You should now be able to connect your Airpods to your iOS device easily.

4. Are your Airpods charged?

A low battery level of the AirPods can also be one of the reasons why your Airpods might not be connecting to your iOS device. To charge your Airpods you must put them in their case. Charging your AirPods assures that they’ll have enough battery runtime to work properly.

The Airpod case has multiple charges so you must keep your Airpods in the case when not in use. To charge your case, you must use a Qi-certified charging mat. Remember that the Airpod case is closed and is facing up.

When your AirPods are in the Charging Case, the Status Light will show how much your AirPods are charged. The Green color light on the Status Light means fully charged; the amber white light on the Status Light means less than a full charge.

Green Light showing Airpods are charged If your AirPods have very low battery backup, then the status light starts blinking into red light. To avoid the red blinking issue, you can read this article – What Do the Lights on Airpods Mean?

5. How to know my Airpod’s battery level?

Another reason your Airpods might not be connected is the low battery level. Checking the battery level is simple. By following the steps given below, you may know it too.

How to check Airpods Battery Level

Go to your iPhone’s notification center and then click on options.

Find the battery widget function.

The battery level of the device connected with your iPhone will be visible there. You can check the level of your Airpods at the same place.

This will help you find out how to know the battery level of your Airpods

Try troubleshooting your Airpods

There is another way of helping connect your Airpods and that is by troubleshooting them. To do that there are some simple steps that everyone can follow. They are mentioned below.

  • Make sure Bluetooth is turned on your iOS device so that your Airpods can be connected
  • Your Airpods must be charged for connection.
